Awakened to Freedom is a non-profit organization established on the unwavering belief that restoration is God’s promise to those recovering from substance use disorder.
We are committed to the truth that every man and woman who has battled addiction deserves the opportunity to live a life "Awakened to Freedom"—the abundant and redeemed life that is fully available to them "In Christ."
Our mission is to walk alongside individuals as they step into their God-given freedom, embracing healing, restoration, and the fullness of their identity in Him. At Awakened to Freedom, we believe no story is too broken, no life too far gone, and no person beyond the reach of God’s transformative love and grace.
Awakened to Freedom was founded after God began to place a deep desire in our hearts to see the lives of those who have suffered through addiction truly transformed—not merely taught how to cope with the effects of addiction but empowered to step into complete restoration and healing.
Our mission goes beyond addressing the surface-level impact of substance use disorder. We are dedicated to helping individuals experience a life-changing encounter with God, where brokenness is exchanged for wholeness, and coping is replaced by genuine freedom. Through His grace, we believe that every life can be renewed, restored, and awakened to the freedom available in Christ.
At Awakened to Freedom, we believe that recovery is a process—a journey of equipping individuals with the tools needed to break free from the effects of active addiction. This process is vital and necessary on the path to healing and restoration.
However, we also believe that true transformation goes beyond the initial “treatment” phase. Much of the work to restore lives begins after recovery, as individuals take the tools they’ve learned and build upon them.
This is where we come in. Our mission is to help individuals go deeper, guiding them to discover and step into the freedom they already possess. Through encouragement, support, and spiritual renewal, we help awaken them to the fullness of life that is available to them—a life of freedom, healing, and restoration in Christ.
The statistics are staggering:
These numbers reveal that current methodologies and interventions are falling short in bringing lasting restoration to individuals battling addiction. As a result, families and communities also remain unrepaired, perpetuating cycles of trauma and substance abuse that lead to substance use disorders in future generations.
The ripple effects of addiction extend far beyond the individual:
We believe that God’s heart is for restoration. He desires to heal and transform individuals, which in turn can repair the brokenness in families, communities, and future generations.
While many interventions exist, the ongoing and evolving opioid crisis shows us that these efforts have not been enough. The time has come for a new approach—one that partners with the promise of God to bring true healing and freedom. This is why Awakened to Freedom is committed to standing in the gap, providing hope and transformation to individuals, families, and communities. Together, we believe we can break the cycles of addiction and rebuild lives.
At Awakened to Freedom, we take pride in our mission to “bridge the gap” between the life God has planned for our clients and the skills they’ve gained during their journey in Recovery. Our goal is to help individuals not just recover but awaken to the fullness of life and purpose that is available to them—a life without limits, a life of Freedom.
To achieve this, we’ve designed a program built on three transformative phases: Stabilization, Awakening, and Restoration. Each phase is intentionally not time-based but rather centered around the unique needs of each individual client.
We understand that healing and growth are deeply personal journeys that cannot be rushed. To ensure this, clients will sign a contract, but it will focus on their individual needs, allowing them the time and space to walk through these steps without fear of running out of time.
At Awakened to Freedom, we believe that true healing begins when individuals are provided with the foundational resources necessary to stabilize their lives. By addressing immediate needs such as housing, employment, and other basic essentials, we move individuals out of survival mode and into a space where they can begin to see the fullness of the life God has planned for them. We partner with other organizations to ensure that individuals have the tools to meet these needs, which serves as the essential first step in their journey toward lasting recovery and restoration. Through this phase, we help our clients transition from existing to thriving, setting the stage for the transformative work God is ready to do in their lives.
Approximately 50% of individuals suffering from mental health conditions—such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and other significant personality-based disorders—also struggle with substance use disorder. This close link underscores the urgent need for comprehensive care that addresses both aspects simultaneously. In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on dual-diagnosis protocols aimed at treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders effectively.
At Awakened to Freedom, we believe that addressing these challenges from a spiritual and holistic perspective is essential for long-term recovery and successful reintegration into society.
This phase of our program operates through a twofold approach:
By addressing trauma and mental health issues through a long-term, spiritually guided approach, we aim to provide individuals with the support they need to experience deep healing and restoration, empowering them to reclaim their lives and walk in the freedom and purpose God has for them.
The third phase of our program focuses on empowering individuals to step into the unique vision God has placed on their lives. By partnering with Citipointe Cleveland and other local organizations, we work to identify each person’s calling and provide the tools and opportunities necessary to walk in that purpose.
We believe that every individual has a divine purpose, and our goal is to connect them with the resources, mentors, and pathways that will help them fulfill it. Whether the path leads to ministry, vocational work, or other personal aspirations, this phase is tailored to the specific needs and goals of each participant.
By creating meaningful connections and providing opportunities for growth, this phase aims to transform lives and communities. It bridges the gap between recovery and restoration, enabling individuals to walk confidently in the freedom and purpose that God has prepared for them.
Our organization is committed to providing early intervention options for youth and young adults, aiming to address substance abuse habits at their formative stages. By identifying risks early and offering targeted support, we seek to prevent the tragic outcomes that have affected so many lives in recent years. Through education, mentorship, counseling, and community collaboration, we equip young people with the tools they need to make healthy choices and overcome challenges. Our goal is to foster a generation empowered to step into the fullness of their potential and live the life God has planned for them—a life of freedom and purpose.
If you feel led by the Lord, we invite you to partner with us by donating to our outreach efforts supporting individuals in addiction recovery. Your generosity directly impacts lives, as all proceeds are used to care for those in our program. Together, we can bring hope, healing, and restoration to those on their journey toward freedom and purpose. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference. Thank you for standing with us in this vital mission.
